Autism Awareness Month & World Autism Day…Show Your Colors!!!

Bookmark and Share

If you have met one child with Autism, you have met one child with Autism. Those with an Autism Spectrum Disorder are each unique, multifaceted individuals. In April, we honor Autism Awareness Month and April 2 as World Autism Day by displaying our colors the represent the spectrum and diversity of the Autism community.

If you do not yet know someone with Autism, the odds are you will. I ask my readers to join with me and support Autism awareness by showing your colors. This website has a deliberately colorful look for the month of April and I will be pulling my favorite multi-colored clothes from the closet to wear (especially on April 2) to remind the public of the importance of supporting those with Autism and their families. Be it a shirt, scarf, tie, pin or bracelet, I’m sure can find something that represents the colors of Autism to show your support. Please share this with everyone that you know.

Our children are full of wondrous delight like rainbows with the luminescence and energy of fireworks. Do not mourn our children…accommodate their needs and help them reach their potential to light up the world with their talents.

Below is a list of Autism Awareness Month Events. Please share any other Autism events in the comments section of this post, and I will add them to the main list. Note: This is a preliminary events list. Please check back for updates.

Hi, Just found your blog through yahoo groups and really enjoying it!
We just got back from an amazing event called Surfers for Autism in Florida. They estimated about 3,500 people showed for this event at Deerfield beach, including my 4 yr old ASD son who was taught to surf by professional surfers. They will have many more events along Florida’s coast and one in Georgia I think. Next ones in Juno Beach Fl.
You can see the pics and event dates on their Facebook page:

The energy and love at this event was beyond words.

  2. 4th Annual Autism Walk
It’s that time of year again! We are getting ready for the 4th annual autism walk. The walk will again be held at Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids. This year’s walk will be April 30, 2011 from 8:30 am to 11:00 am. We will again have music, games, food and fun. Our fundraising goal this year is $25,000. So we would love you to set up your own personal fundraising page, and send to your family and friends.
